get-together 2.0

the arrington vs. shipley clash (fraternity party vs. pay to play) earlier today didn’t really cast a positive light on the industry. in fact with both conferences targeting different audiences and building on different ideologies i found it rather inappropriate. read the whole discussion on tm, but basically it’s all about helping bootstraped dorm room innovations vs. companies who are willing to pay in order to a) compensate for a boring product or b) are so well backed that no one’s gonna miss a twenty grand in the petty cash fund. sure, we all embrace the ongoing shift in business & media but it’s still way too early to start the discussion about the worth of conferences and certain gatekeepers from a black-and-white viewpoint (headline). and by the way, there’s plenty of room for events that put a global light on companies in the midfields who really battle it out every single day.
